Two Rivers Paper

200lb Full Imperial Cotton Rag Paper – 4 Sheet Pack

200lb Full Imperial Cotton Rag Paper – 4 Sheet Pack

TR Original Cotton and Linen 200lb (410gsm) ~  Full Imperial Sheet Pack

Four sheets of our medium standard-weight paper.

56 x 76cm with four natural deckle edges.

Tough enough to handle watercolour, acrylics, oils, pastels, mixed media and many printmaking processes. The inclusion of linen creates a tough surface that can be reworked without breaking down. Tub-sizing allows paint and pigments to dry to a sharp, bright finish.

The texture of the paper increases with sheet weight: Our 140lb (310 gsm) paper has a smoother surface than the 300lb (630 gsm) paper.

Handmade in Somerset from our cotton and linen mix.

Questions about our Paper?

Our 200lb Full Imperial is made by hand in small batches at our mill in Watchet, Somerset.

Cotton and linen fibre, broken down in our Hollander beaters, is formed sheet by sheet on traditional moulds and deckles, giving each one four natural deckle edges and a strength that sets handmade rag paper apart from anything machine-made.

At 200lb, the sheet is substantial enough to handle generous washes, and the gelatine tub-sizing keeps paint on the surface rather than letting it sink in. Pigment dries bright and sharp, and the surface takes lifting, scrubbing and reworking.

It takes three to four days from raw fibre to finished sheet. Suitable for watercolour, acrylics, oils, pastels, printmaking, and photographic processes.

For years now I have been using a French rag paper (I’ll mention no names) suffice to say it’s a great paper and I’ve been very pleased with it.
I have recently tried 200lb not from TR and found it a fantastic paper, altogether as good as any I’ve ever used and I’ve tried most of the big makes, but I would go as far as to say that it’s actually better than them all, when it comes to lifting out, scrubbing and general rough treatment it stands up to the task exceptionally well, it does exactly what they say it does! and the colours are really vibrant.
I only wish I had tried this paper years ago but the ironic thing is I bought 5 sheets of it around 2005 and have had it sitting in my studio all this time I recently ran short of paper and thought I’d give it a go and it’s now 2017.
So the moral of the story is if you buy it try it!! lol
I hope this helps if you’re thinking of a purchase.

A real pleasure to paint on with water colours or acrylics. The wonderful surface and texture can only improve the results of any medium used. By far the best paper I’ve ever used.

I was using Fabriano when Jim came to see me at the NEC .. I bought about 50 sheets of the 300 GSM which I printed with stone litho..then oil for the main subject..I can honestly say it was an improvement on the Fabriano..it can take vigorous surface treatment and its made by a company whose boss is incredibly technically versed in paper making and its British..I subsequently tried some of the cold pressed 150gsm and painted fully with both tempera and oil and was similarly impressed with the paper ..I would thoroughly endorse Two Rivers paper as among the best
