Full Imperial, 140lb is our lightest large-format sheet. The surface is smoother than our heavier weights, making it more suitable for detailed work, controlled washes, fine brushwork or pen and ink. It is tough enough to handle watercolour, acrylics, pastels, mixed media and many printmaking processes. The inclusion of linen creates a tough surface that can be reworked without breaking down. Tub-sizing allows paint and pigments to dry to a sharp, bright finish. Both sides of every sheet can be used with equal confidence.

The texture of the paper increases with sheet weight: Our 140lb (310 gsm) paper has a smoother surface than the 300lb (630 gsm) paper.

Every sheet of Two Rivers 140lb Full Imperial is made by hand at our mill in Watchet, Somerset. Cotton and linen fibres are prepared in our Hollander beaters and formed on traditional moulds and deckles, a process that gives the paper its four natural deckle edges and the structural strength that machine-made paper cannot replicate.

Gelatine tub-sizing finishes the surface, keeping paint workable, allowing easy lifting and reworking, and ensuring pigment dries to a sharp, vivid finish rather than sinking into the sheet.

From raw fibre to finished paper takes three to four working days. Suitable for watercolour, acrylics, pastels, printmaking, and photographic processes.
